Busy families of 2018 are constantly trying to get on top of all that “busy-ness” that continually crowds our head space.

There’s seems to be struggles with Who’s taking the kids where, Why aren’t the household chores split 50/50, When does it all stop?

I don’t have an answer for those questions. Sorry.

You’ve heard it all before – Life will hit you so hard at different stages. But is there anything out there that can lessen the blow?

Yes, there is. I’ve been organizing lives for a long time and I can tell you that being organized, prepared and managing your time really DOES help.

I know, you’re saying you’ve heard it all before. But, you still struggle and THAT’S not ok!

Look… do you have a mechanic look at your car when it’s broke? Do you go to a dentist when there’s something a miss in your mouth?

Can I ask you something then???

WHY?

Why don’t you ask for help to get organized, prepared and nail down your time management skills?

Brain Dump or Mind Dumping is what the team at Just In Time Solutions calls a weekly exercise.

Over the course of a week you can easily take on millions of thoughts and tasks without really understanding what this condensed information is doing to your health and how you are functioning.

A weekly “Mind Dump” is pretty much a necessity in our lives at this point. We have families, careers, lifestyles that require us to move at a pace that sometimes feels supernatural. By stopping and allowing the information and tasks to flow out of our brains and unto paper or a digital form, we are slowly decompressing and reducing the stress associated with a lack of mindfulness.

Anxiety, depression and a feeling of being overwhelmed are all symptoms of Brain Overload!

A brain dump is simply the act of dumping all the contents of your mind onto paper as one might dump the contents of a purse onto a table. You are spilling out stressors, your nagging thoughts, your pesky annoyances. Simply open up a valve in your mind and let all those thoughts flow out of your hand and onto some paper. Write until you feel like the pressure inside of you is lessened and you can take a deep breath. Then you will have achieved a brain dump. Littlecoffeefox

You see, once you’ve written or typed that thought down it can’t get away from you. It can’t hide  in the corner of your mind, nagging at you. It’s become a “truth” for all intense and purposes. It has become real and it’s something you can tackle.

The release of a Mind Dump can literally be felt as you’re writing. You can start feeling the stress levels decrease within your brain. Now, the secret to a successful “Mind Dump” is to really sit there and let it all go. Every thought that crosses your mind, whether it’s a quick flash or a lingering moment, they all need to be written down and “dumped”.

Now you may be feeling that you have to get on top of this list of things that you’ve regurgitated. You might start feeling overwhelmed looking at this paper that has just spilled from your brain. DON”T…Wait it out.

Take 10 minutes and walk away. Trust me, ten minutes is not going to hurt you in any way.

Now, you’re back and your ready to look at this list with a purpose in mind. Prioritize the most pressing 10 things on this list. 1 though to 10. Numbered?

When you get up in the morning and start your day, it’s important that you understand that the space you are living in reflects what’s going on in your life. There is a link to your surroundings that is like an umbilical cord.

We have years of experience working with families and individuals and we’re here to tell you if you feel “out of control”
, if there’s a heavy weight resting on your shoulders there may be a very simple solution.
Try one thing….
That’s it – just one thing.
Make your bed.
Tuck the sheets in, straighten the duvet and put the decorative pillows up.
Now, tonight when you walk into your bedroom after a long day, whether it was productive or not you have some sanctuary to end the day in.
But when you walk into your room, you need to acknowledge how you feel when you look at that bed. You need to be aware of that moment when you see that “comfort”, that space that is simple and welcoming. If you don’t take the time to appreciate that moment it will be lost and the work  ( however limited) you put into it was for nothing.
Once you’ve tried this, once you’ve accepted that this “one thing” made a difference in how you felt when you ended your day, you can continue the journey into simplifying the rest of your space.

Don’t think WOW! I’m going to tackle the basement tomorrow! ( well ok if you want to!) But We’re here to tell you, don’t bite off more then you can chew. Stick to your bedroom and it’s sanctuary. It’s a great first step. And a peaceful rest is what we are trying to get you to understand. You must start with yourself, you must make sure you’re rested and strong to begin the journey of bringing chaos to calm.
Now….
Make your bed and then clean off your bedside table.
I mean leave nothing but the lamp and your alarm clock if you have one. When you reach out to turn off that light I want to you see a clear bedside table. I want you to rest.

Yes, Summer is going to come to and end. Don’t shoot the messenger!

We love our summer days, but there’s something about fall that makes us feel like we’re in for a new start. It’s like the “New Year” for us.
We push ourselves all summer, entertaining, travelling and living the good life. Back to school hits and all of a sudden we get that tight feeling in our chests. Moms and Dads get overwhlemed at the thought of pulling their schedules together and making everyone happy.

Then you glance back over your shoulder at your home and realize that the summer blew through it like a tornado. Putting systems in place during September does help in many areas. Your kids start school back knowing where everything is, what is expected of them when they go to “Drop” their stuff in the hallway.

Remember to try small areas of change first. It might actually help if you get a few “guidelines” in place now before all the rush in September. Give the backpacks, lunchpails and notes from school a HOME. You know the first week back you’ll be flooded with slips and requests from school so make sure nothing gets lost in the chaos by having a home for all those incoming papers before school starts.

A few well prepared meals ahead of time will help with the first week back as well.
There’s nothing like getting back into the “runnning” and knowing that the family will have a healthy meal waiting for them atleast once or twice that first week back.

As I work away in my office doing everything that needs to be done to run a small business of my own, it’s been a challenging day to stay on task.

The recent election in the USA has most people in a daze today, I’m finding. I went to bed last night feeling anxious and woke up feeling depressed. I’m happy for those that are happy with the outcome. We are all entitled to our political views. And although I’m Canadian and happy to be one, there is no doubt in my mind that there will be fall out and changes from this very, very stressful election and campaign.

I only wish our neighbours to the south peace and security. I wish those in the world who are living in a state of limbo, a sense of calm.

Remember you cannot control anyone else actions or how they react to a situation. You can only control your own. So, be the person you are proud of. Strive to make your time here as fulfilling and worthwhile as possible.

Look to the future, your future as an adventure where sometimes challenges will arrive and certainly set you back…maybe even knock you down for the count. But that same adventure could very well lead you to the edge of the most beautiful and enriching state of being you would never had noticed.

Project to your family and friends that you believe in them, provide that safe and comforting environment that you, yourself wish for.

There have been many, many difficult things that have occurred in our lifespan, we concurred them all. We grew and learned from our mistakes and we will continue on this journey.

Trust in who you are. Be strong. Hold your face to the sun and breathe deep.
